Kavai is a planned non-profit initiative in Norway, working to make AI a personal benefit available to everyone, privately and independently, without gatekeepers, surveillance, or dependence on third parties.
Why Kavai exists
A personal benefit available to everyone.
Everyone should be able to use AI privately and independently, without asking permission, being priced out, surrendering personal information, or having somebody looking over their shoulder.
Kavai exists to help make that future practical.
Local AI, public demonstrations, older-hardware optimisation, guided deployments, and grant funding are the practical means. They are not the purpose itself.

Traditional cloud AI sends your request away for processing. Kavai’s destination is AI that runs on the device you already own and benefits you directly.
Based in Oslo
Starting with one person and a few early users.
Kavai is being set up by Kristoffer Rolf Deinoff in Oslo. The first trials will be deliberately hands-on because the difficult part is not merely running a model. It is making the entire experience clear enough that a non-technical person can say, “That just worked.”
Software developer, architect, speaker and teacher. Experience building and evolving systems for companies, organizations and the public sector. Since 2023 his work has focused on AI, including running AI models locally. In 2022 he co-founded Paracrew, which is active today as Paracrew Humanitarian Aid, delivering medical supplies and humanitarian aid into Ukraine.
The first demo (in preparation)
Try the idea before installing it.
A public demo will help identify ideas that create genuine personal value. Successful concepts can then be simplified and prepared for private use on ordinary hardware.
The demo is meant to show that the idea is useful. The destination remains AI that works for the user, on their own device.
